There are so many different ways to keep your home cool now. Do you know about every kind of cooling device and cooling approach there is? From the most basic cooling methods to the most complex cooling systems, here are possible cooling installations for your home.
Use Room Darkening Shades
Room darkening shades block a ton of sunlight. On really hot days, these shades should be drawn in rooms where the sun is the brightest. Less sun equals less heat inside your home, so darkening shades can keep temperatures down. With room darkening shades, you can use other simple cooling techniques such as fans or window AC units.
Use Portable Air Conditioners
Portable air conditioners vent hot air through a hose positioned through a hole in the wall or fashioned through special vents you create in open windows. You can move these units from room to room to cool wherever you need cooling. You can also pick certain rooms in the house to cool that are positioned in such a way that the cooled air would flow into other areas.
Use Ductless Air Conditioners
Ductless air conditioners vent to the outside through a single heat pump, but a single heat pump can manage up to eight wall units in your home. This is a relatively easy installation, with each wall unit requiring only a small hole the size of a silver dollar through which an electrical cord and the hose connecting the wall unit to the pump outside are threaded. Nothing needs connecting to your ducts or vents, and yet the cooled air feels just like central air throughout your home.
Use Central Air Conditioners
A central air conditioner requires part installation outdoors and part installation indoors. A lot of electrical wiring, cabling, and hoses have to be threaded through holes in walls and connected to the parts of the unit inside and outside and to your home's electrical box as well. Installation takes a few hours at the very least. These units require a lot of maintenance, and repairs are necessary as the units get older.
Use Geothermal Cooling
The most complex of all cooling units, the geothermal unit requires excavation of your yard, burial of the geothermal loop, and installation of a heat pump system. It will take at least an entire day, possibly two, to install this cooling unit. It is also the most expensive of all cooling options.
