Vinyl Siding Is A Great Choice In Rainy Climates

When you live in a rainy climate, you need to take that into account when selecting materials for your home. This includes the siding that you choose. Wood siding, metal siding, and brick are all good siding choices in other areas, but in a rainy climate, you really are best off choosing vinyl. Here are some key reasons why vinyl siding is so great in a rainy climate.

It will not rot or mold.

When porous materials are exposed to water, they hold onto some of that water. Then, the organisms that cause rot and mold can seep in and damage your siding. This is not something you need to worry about with vinyl siding. The vinyl is basically non-porous, so it won't absorb water and it won't grow mold. So, when you see it raining outside, you won't need to worry about your siding. You can also rest assured that the rain won't shorten the lifespan of your siding.

It's basically self-cleaning.

This is especially true when you choose vertical vinyl siding. When it rains, the rainwater will run down the siding. If there is any dirt or debris on your siding, the rainwater will carry that grime with it. Your siding should remain pretty clean, on its own, thanks to this action. You should not have to clean the siding often at all.

It won't attract insects.

Insects like carpenter ants and carpenter bees love anything made from wood, especially when that wood gets wet. This is not an issue with vinyl, however. Since the vinyl doesn't absorb rain, it dries off quickly. Insects can't eat it, and they won't want to nest in it. This is a real advantage in areas where heavy rainfall has made termites and other wood-eating bugs such an issue.

It's warranted for use in such areas.

Some companies won't give you a warranty, or at least not a very long warranty, on wood or composite siding in a rainy area. This isn't an issue with vinyl. Since rain does not compromise it, the company should give you a good warranty. It's nice to have the peace of mind that comes with knowing you won't have to pay as much for repairs.

If you live in a rainy climate, consider choosing vinyl siding. Have a few siding installation contractors come to give you quotes, and go from there. You'll love the benefits above.

Getting Your Home Repaired

As a homeowner, you never know what kinds of problems are right around the corner. The back porch seemed to be falling away from the house, and the entire foundation was cracking slightly. I knew that I needed to do something to make things right, so I started focusing carefully on finding a general contractor. After I found a professional with the credentials that I needed, it was great to see the repairs on my home come together. Check out this blog for more information on home repairs.
